FullTsukidera Ukimido Hall-Mangetsu-ji Temple, floating on Lake Biwa, is a historical wonder listed among the Eight Views of Omi.(about301 minute, free time, ticket fee is at your own expense)
It is said that during the Heian period, the monk Tomokazu Genshin built a Buddhist temple on Lake Biwa to pray for the safety of the lake and the salvation of all living beings. This is a temple of the Rinzai sect of the Daitoku-ji school. The existing building, rebuilt in 1949 and renovated in 1957, retains its original charm. The spectacular view of the Buddhist temple floating on the lake is known as "Katata Falling Geese," one of the Eight Views of Omi, and has been admired by many writers, including Matsuo Basho.

The most iconic landmark of Lake Biwa is undoubtedly the Ukimido Hall at Kaimonsan Mangetsu-ji Temple. At the end of the stone bridge leading from the temple to the shores of Lake Biwa is a Buddhist temple that appears to float on the surface, hence its name. The scenery is beautiful and tranquil, perfect for enjoying the breeze. The Ukimido Hall at sunrise is truly breathtaking. As the weather changes, the hall retains its ancient charm, making it a perfect spot for photo opportunities.
