About Ine Village:
Recognized by Japanese locals as one of Japan’s 18 most beautiful villages, Ine is famous for its unique waterfront boat houses (Funaya). Around 230 Funaya houses line the 5 km coastline of Ine Bay, facing south. Locals still live in harmony with the sea, creating an untouched and authentic coastal landscape rarely found in popular tourist destinations. The crystal-clear water, deep green mountains, ever-changing skies, and traditional wooden houses create a truly natural color palette found only in Ine.

14:40 | Amanohashidate
One of Japan’s Three Scenic Views
(Approx. 2.5 hours, free exploration)
Amanohashidate View Land cable car fee at own expense

Amanohashidate, located in Miyazu Bay along the Sea of Japan, is one of Japan’s Three Scenic Views, together with Matsushima and Miyajima. Stretching about 3.6 km, this sandbar is covered with approximately 8,000 pine trees, flanked by white sandy beaches on both sides. Its shape resembles a bridge reaching toward the sky, giving it the name “Amanohashidate” (Bridge to Heaven).

From Mt. Monju, enjoy panoramic views where Amanohashidate appears like a flying dragon, known as “Flying Dragon View.”

Chion-ji Temple (Monju-do Hall)
A temple dedicated to Monju Bosatsu, the deity of wisdom, popular among students praying for academic success. The temple features fan-shaped fortune slips symbolizing gradual improvement. Nearby, the Rotating Bridge turns 90 degrees when large boats pass through (operates irregularly).
Free admission.

Beach Walk & Leisure Time
Stroll through pine forests or relax along the white sand beaches. Visit Amanohashidate Shrine, known for blessings in love, and the famous well Iso Shimizu, selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best Waters. In summer, the beach opens as a swimming area with lifeguards, changing rooms, and coin showers.

Amanohashidate Onsen – Chie no Yu
Located in front of JR Amanohashidate Station. The hot spring is said to have skin-beautifying properties.

  • Outdoor foot bath: Free

  • Admission fee: ¥700 (at own expense)

Amanohashidate View Land
Located on Mt. Monju’s summit, accessible by monorail. Enjoy 360° panoramic views, amusement rides for all ages, observation decks, and attractions such as the “Lucky Clay Plate Toss.” The scenic terrace café is ideal for relaxing breaks.

17:30 | Amanohashidate – Hotel Check-in
Stay at Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Amanohashidate or a similar hotel.

Day 2

09:00 | Depart from Hotel

10:30 | Miyama Thatched Village (Kayabuki no Sato)
(Approx. 2 hours, free exploration)

Miyama Kayabuki no Sato is one of Japan’s three remaining thatched-roof villages, alongside Shirakawa-go and Ouchi-juku. About 40 traditional thatched houses remain, many still inhabited, and the village was designated as an Important Preservation District in 1993. The peaceful scenery feels like stepping back into the Edo period.

Fun Fact:
Unlike Shirakawa-go’s steep two-sided “gassho-zukuri” roofs designed to shed snow, Miyama’s thatched houses feature roofs covered on all sides, offering insulation—cool in summer and warm in winter.

Photo Spots & Café

  • Iconic red vintage postbox

  • Cafe & Gallery Saika, a hidden café inside a thatched house offering Miyama milk, ice cream, cakes, and traditional sweets

Chii Hachiman Shrine
Built in 1017, this shrine has served as the spiritual center of Miyama for over 1,000 years and is a designated Kyoto cultural property.

14:00 | Arashiyama
(Approx. 3 hours, free exploration)

Explore Arashiyama and Sagano, known for historic temples, bamboo groves, scenic railways, and seasonal beauty. Highlights include Tenryu-ji Temple (UNESCO World Heritage), the Bamboo Forest Path, traditional shops, cafes, kimono rentals, and rickshaw rides.

Optional Activities (at own expense):

  • Sagano Scenic Railway

  • Bamboo Grove Walk
