10:10 – Wakayama | Visit the Famous Cat Stationmaster at Kishi Station

⏱ Approx. 70 minutes

Kishi Station, the terminal of the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line, is a small rural station that gained worldwide fame thanks to a legendary cat stationmaster named Tama.

In 2006, facing financial difficulties, the railway appointed Tama—an 8-year-old calico cat—as stationmaster. Her adorable presence quickly attracted media attention and visitors, ultimately saving the line from closure and revitalizing the local economy.

After Tama’s passing in 2015, she was honored as the Eternal Honorary Stationmaster. Her successors, including Nitama (passed away in Nov 2025), and the current stationmasters Yontama and Gotama, continue this heartwarming tradition.

Today, the line features three themed trains (Tama, Strawberry, and Toy), a cat café, souvenir shops, cat-themed stamps, and a beautifully designed station building—making it a must-visit destination for cat lovers.

Note: Yontama rests on Wednesdays and Thursdays; apprentice stationmaster Gotama will be on duty instead.

πŸšƒ Special Arrangement: Ride a Themed Train

10:38 Kishi Station → 10:50 Idakiso Station
This experience is included in the tour price.

As Kishi Station is an unmanned station, the driver-guide may not be able to accompany guests if also acting as the driver. Guests will reunite with the group upon arrival at Idakiso Station.

The themed train operating at 10:38 changes daily—enjoy the surprise!

12:00 – Wakayama | Kuroshio Market – Tuna Cutting Show & Lunch

⏱ Approx. 100 minutes (lunch at own expense)

Kuroshio Market is one of Kansai’s most iconic seafood markets, styled after traditional Japanese markets of the 1960s. Often described as a “seafood museum,” it showcases fresh seafood from all over Japan, from Kyushu to Hokkaido.

A live tuna cutting show takes place daily at 12:30, where skilled chefs expertly carve a giant tuna while explaining its anatomy—an impressive blend of craftsmanship and entertainment.

In rare cases of cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. traffic or operational reasons), no refunds will be issued.

Guests are free to enjoy lunch at the market’s restaurants and grills, offering fresh sashimi, seafood bowls, and Wakayama specialties such as dried seafood, ume plums, and local soy sauce.

Optional Visit: Fruit Village
Enjoy seasonal fruits and desserts, shop for local produce, tofu-based health foods, and sweets made with milk from Kurozawa Farm.
