10:00 – Wakayama | Visit the Famous Cat Stationmaster at Kishi Station

⏱ Approx. 70 minutes

Kishi Station is a small rural station in Wakayama Prefecture and the terminal of the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line. Once facing closure, the station gained nationwide and international fame thanks to a legendary cat named Tama.

The Legendary Cat Stationmaster – Tama

In 2006, due to staffing cost issues, Wakayama Electric Railway appointed an 8-year-old calico cat named Tama as the official stationmaster. Her daily “duties,” greeting passengers and patrolling the station, quickly attracted media attention and visitors.

Saving a Railway Line

As passenger numbers declined, the Kishigawa Line was once at risk of being discontinued. Tama’s popularity revitalized the area, boosting local businesses, souvenir sales, themed cat trains, and even the construction of a cat-shaped station building—becoming a symbol of regional revival.

A Living Cat Culture

After Tama passed away in June 2015, she was honored as the Eternal Honorary Stationmaster. Her successor Nitama passed away in November 2025, and today the tradition continues with Yontama and Gotama, keeping this heartwarming story alive.

The line features three themed trains (Tama, Strawberry, and Toy), along with a cat café, souvenir shops, cat-themed stamps, and beautifully decorated station facilities—making it a must-visit spot for cat lovers.

Note: Yontama rests on Wednesdays and Thursdays; apprentice stationmaster Gotama will be on duty instead.

πŸšƒ Special Arrangement: Ride a Themed Train

10:38 Kishi Station → 10:50 Idakiso Station
This experience is included in the tour price.

As Kishi Station is unmanned, the driver-guide may not be able to accompany guests if also serving as the driver. Guests will reunite with the group upon arrival at Idakiso Station.

The themed train operating at 10:38 changes daily—enjoy the surprise!

12:50 – Shirahama | ToreTore Market – Seafood Lunch & Tuna Cutting Show

⏱ Approx. 120 minutes (lunch at own expense)

Located in Shirahama, ToreTore Market is the largest seafood market in Nanki Shirahama and all of Western Japan. It brings together the freshest daily catches and operates as a comprehensive sightseeing seafood market.

The market hosts 2–3 tuna cutting shows daily (times vary). With just a single knife, skilled chefs expertly carve a massive tuna while explaining its structure—an impressive blend of craftsmanship and entertainment.
In rare cases of cancellation due to special circumstances, your understanding is appreciated.

Lunch Recommendations

Guests may freely choose from various restaurants and BBQ stalls inside the market, offering fresh sashimi, grilled seafood, and local Wakayama/Shirahama specialties such as dried fish, overnight-dried seafood, and local sake.

Optional Seafood BBQ

  • BBQ seat reference price:

    • Adults: ¥800 per seat

    • Children: ¥500 per seat

  • Ingredients to be purchased separately after registration

  • 90-minute dining time with soft drinks at the bar (no outside food or drinks allowed)

♨️ Optional Experience: ToreTore Onsen (At Own Expense)

Shirahama Onsen is one of Japan’s most historic hot spring resorts, alongside Arima Onsen and Dogo Onsen, with a history spanning over 1,350 years. It is also ranked among Japan’s top three onsen destinations together with Beppu and Atami.

ToreTore Onsen features bicarbonate-rich waters and Japan’s first salt-block stone sauna.

  • Children (3–12 years): ¥400

  • Towel rental: ¥160 | Bath towel: ¥410

15:05 – Shirahama | Senjojiki Rock Plateau

⏱ Approx. 30 minutes

Senjojiki is a unique coastal rock formation shaped by long-term erosion from the Pacific Ocean. Covering about 4 hectares—large enough to fit 1,000 tatami mats—it is named accordingly.

Together with Sandanbeki and Engetsuto Island, it is one of Shirahama’s most scenic landmarks. Senjojiki is also a famous sunset-viewing spot, selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Sunsets. Watching the sun sink into the Pacific here feels like standing at the edge of the world.

Sandanbeki Cliffs & Cave (Optional Entry)

⏱ Approx. 30 minutes

Part of the Yoshino-Kumano National Park, Sandanbeki is a dramatic 2-kilometer-long sea cliff rising 50–60 meters above the ocean. Observation decks offer sweeping views of the Nanki coastline.

An elevator descends 36 meters underground to the Sandanbeki Cave, formed by ocean erosion. Once used by pirates during the Heian Period (794–1185), the cave now features exhibits and replicas related to pirate history and natural formations.

Admission (at own expense)

  • Adults: ¥1,500

  • Children (6–11 years): ¥750

  • Children under 6: Free

16:10 – Return Journey

Return time is approximate and may vary depending on traffic and tour progress.

18:40 – Osaka | Shinsaibashi & Dotonbori Area

Guests using the meeting-point plan will be dismissed in the Shinsaibashi area.
